How to calculate energy saving with the IDAE datasheets

Step-by-step tutorial to calculate energy saving using the standardised IDAE datasheets. Examples with IND050, RES080 and TER030.

What are the IDAE datasheets?

The standardised IDAE datasheets are official calculation methodologies for each type of energy efficiency action. They are defined in Orden TED/845/2023, of 18 July, and constitute the official catalogue of actions eligible for the Spanish CAE system.

There are 114 datasheets divided into 5 categories:

  • Industrial (IND): 28 datasheets (lighting, motors, variable speed drives, insulation, processes)
  • Residential (RES): 43 datasheets (boilers, heat pumps, windows, insulation)
  • Tertiary (TER): 36 datasheets (LED, air conditioning, management systems)
  • Agricultural (AGR): 2 datasheets (irrigation, greenhouses)
  • Transport (TRA): 5 datasheets (vehicles, charging points)

Practical example: datasheet IND050 (industrial LED)

Datasheet IND050 covers replacing conventional lighting with LED in industrial environments. It is one of the most widely used datasheets because of its high saving potential.

Input parameters

  • Installed power before the action (kW)
  • Installed power after the action (kW)
  • Annual operating hours (h/year)
  • Utilisation factor

Calculation formula

Saving (MWh/year) = (Power_before - Power_after) x Operating_hours x Utilisation_factor / 1000

Numerical example

An industrial warehouse with 100 fixtures of 400 W replaced by 150 W LEDs, operating 4,000 h/year:

Saving = (100 x 0.4 - 100 x 0.15) x 4,000 / 1,000 = 100 MWh/year

At a market price of 0.15 EUR/kWh, this represents 15,000 EUR in CAE value.

Example: datasheet TER030 (tertiary LED)

Similar to IND050 but for tertiary buildings (offices, shops, hotels). The parameters are the same, but the correction factors differ depending on the climate zone and the type of use.

Minimum threshold of 30 MWh

Article 14.6 of Orden TED/815/2023 sets a minimum threshold of 30 MWh of saving per file. If the calculation does not reach this threshold, the file cannot be submitted. Options:

  • Group several actions into a single file (if they are of the same type and beneficiary)
  • Look for actions with greater saving potential

How CertificAhorro automates the calculation

CertificAhorro implements the 114 datasheets of the official catalogue. Select the datasheet, enter the parameters, and obtain the result in MWh and tep automatically. The system checks in real time whether you exceed the 30 MWh threshold.

You can try the calculator for free with datasheet IND050 in the interactive demo, without needing to register.
